What to expect from Zagreb

Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and the largest city in the country. However, it may not reveal all its charm when you first get here. Once you get to the historical city center, you will see the old and the new merging in building styles, coffee shops, streets and people. Your experience will depend on the season you choose to visit because the fluctuation of events is like a true rollercoaster during the year.

If you visit Zagreb during peak months - April to September - there will be street festivals and various exciting activities at every corner. It gets really hot in July and August, keep that in mind. Various outdoor festivals like INmusic, Baš Naš, Matoš Café, beer, wine and movies festivals are a great way to experience the city. All the bars will have open terraces, and most clubs organize amazing concerts for the best nightlife.

But even in that period you have to keep in mind national holidays, specific events and vacation gaps when most locals are gone - it can impact your stay in the city.

If you come to Zagreb during the low season, winter period - October to March - there will be a lot less outdoor activites, but all the accommodation, great food spots and indoor fun (like modern museums and events) will be available. December might be the best month for a visit full of options because of the Christmas Market (Advent u Zagrebu). The whole city center is decorated, live music everywhere and endless food/drinks offers. The end of March is famous for the Festival of Lights that usually lasts 5 evenings - part of the city center becomes a beautiful 3D mapping zone with wonderful imaginative animations and interactive installations.

Zagreb might become your next favorite city! Plan ahead, choose your local tour guide, do the city tour when you arrive and get the best experience.
